Description Pedro Gimeno 2010-01-31 19:34:23 UTC
I use Desaturate often enough as to have put it in the Toolbox. The icon is very similar to that of the Gradients tool, and I have found myself choosing the wrong one several times. This is an usability problem.

As a suggestion, the Desaturate icon could be a grey version of the picture shown in stock-image-*.png.
Comment 1 Michael Natterer 2010-01-31 20:46:43 UTC
Indeed, they are ridiculously similar, we'll need a new tool icon for
desaturate.

This uses a desaturate version of stock-image-* but it doesn't look good, we'll need a better crafted icon.

Alternative desaturate icon in tango colours.

Here is a second alternative for a desaturate icon. This one has an arrow. Let me know if I can design something different/better.
Comment 5 Martin Nordholts 2010-02-06 07:29:17 UTC
Not bad, but:
1. The desaturated part of the icon is not a desaturated version of the colored part
2. The arrow is hard to see on white background, maybe outline it?

Desaturate icons

Here are a few more options for a desaturate icon. For best results, save the png to your computer and zoom in a few times.

I like "a". It is simple and I think it communicates the message, and it looks good on a light and dark background.

Another alternative would be to change the blend icon instead.
Comment 7 Sven Neumann 2010-02-06 22:28:00 UTC
Would be nice if the icon would fit with the style of the current icon theme though. Perhaps we could ask Jimmac if he can draw another icon for us.
