Maybe a bug in the translation? Could you also tell us if you are using a translation and which one is it?
Just got a new packaged version and updated translations, which fixed the problem. http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/main/g/gedit/gedit_2.29.5-0ubuntu1/changelog gedit (2.29.5-0ubuntu1) lucid; urgency=low * New upstream version: - Rework file saving and file loading to always use gio and take advantage of gio stream converters to perform encoding conversion and manage line terminators (Ignacio Casal Quinteiro, Jesse van den Kieboom, Paolo Borelli) - Experimental python support on win32 (Ignacio Casal Quinteiro) - Misc bugfixes - New and updated translations * debian/control.in: - update libglib2.0-dev requirement * debian/patches/90_autoconf.patch: refreshed -- Didier Roche <didrocks@ubuntu.com> Mon, 25 Jan 2010 22:52:54 +0100
Turns out this is not fixed, but probably an error in Yelp on amd64. It may be http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=554842 again. The translation did not fix this, it seems the bug is very probably in yelp. Setting this to invalid.
