GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 606895
hide totem sidebar if there is only one file on the playlist
Last modified: 2010-01-14 14:52:58 UTC
From the Launchpad bug: "when the user is double clicking on a video file, totem will open up and play the video file. "now, since there is only one file on the playlist, there is no need to show the sidebar" The sidebar should be hidden by default when opening only one file, so users simply opening individual video or sound files are not confronted with extra chrome they will not use (or may not even understand - seriously, some users will have a lot of trouble even finding the pause button if there are extra controls shown).
One suggestion from the Launchpad bug is to show the sidebar when the user drags a valid file selection over the player window, as the common use case for the sidebar seems to be dragging-and-dropping additional files to enqueue for playback.

No, this is not a duplicate. Bug 337476 specifies that the playlist should be shown when opening multiple files; this bug specifies that the playlist should /not/ be shown when opening only one file.
