Description Sense Hofstede 2009-12-21 14:25:33 UTC
The downstream reporter suggests to not start the audio preview if you're hovering your mouse pointer over an item in a window that hasn't got the focus. It should only be triggered in windows that do have the focus.

This bug was originally reported by Orr Dvory on Launchpad in Ubuntu at <https://launchpad.net/bugs/489946>.

Hmmm... Why not?
Comment 2 Sense Hofstede 2009-12-21 15:38:52 UTC
I'm not against it either, but I thought it would be good to report it upstream to make sure the original reported would be heard.
I'll ask the original reporter for a more elaborate explanation.

Is important to argue a cause, especially when someone calls or report any changes or enhancement.

Thank :-)

We now do have a rationale, from David Siegel:
"The assumption should be that the user usually does not intend to interact with unfocused windows. I'd guess that more often than not, placing the cursor over an audio file in an unfocused window is not a good indication that the user has chosen to preview this file. Besides, requiring that the user bring a Nautilus window into focus in order to preview audio files on hover is not a huge requirement. Furthermore, the burden of proof should not be on those who say this odd behavior should be eliminated; the Nautilus project should justify this bug/feature or it should be fixed."
