GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 604983
paste special from anotehr apps
Last modified: 2009-12-20 16:02:25 UTC
According to the latest documentation (I found only upto 1.8.x) I can paste special and paste only the content while retaining the current cell format. But when I actually do this I cannot anywhere find the option to retain the format: a place to flag, or an option to choose appears to be missing. Unfortunately I did not try it on earlier versions, so I'm not quite sure where I was supposed to do this precisely. I hope I am not overlooking something, but I looked very thoroughly, so I doubt it.
This is while using gnumeric from latest mandriva Linux Cooker package: gnumeric-1.9.17-1mdv2010.1.i586.rpm
If you copied and then select paste-special you get a dialog with two (or, in current git, three) frames. The first frames is entitled "Paste type". In that frame are 5 items: All Content AS Value Formats Comments If you select the second item (Content) then only the content is pasted. Please let us know if this does not work for you.
Ok, now I see what you mean, but that only appears if I copy something from gnumeric: other cells, or other documents. But if I copy something from another application, for example gedit, 'paste special' is disabled and I cannot get this first drame "Paste type", so I cannot avoid breaking the previous format in gnumeric. So the question remains, why don't I get this if I paste content that's coming from outside of gnumeric: I can do standard paste without problem, why not 'paste special'.
