Description Josh Holland 2009-12-18 19:46:48 UTC
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/441444

Essentially, the problem is that the files being streamed are no longer available, last.fm serves a 404 page, which Rhythmbox tries to play as a media file, leading to the rather obtuse error message. In an ideal world, this would be handled gracefully.
Comment 1 Jonathan Matthew 2009-12-23 11:33:09 UTC
What version of rhythmbox are you using?
Comment 2 Josh Holland 2009-12-23 12:53:01 UTC
I'm on 0.12.5. I'm not sure, but I think it's happened on previous versions too.
Comment 3 Jonathan Matthew 2009-12-24 06:55:31 UTC
This sort of problem should have been fixed by some changes in 0.12.3.. output from 'rhythmbox -d' illustrating the problem would probably help.

The output is of starting RB, moving to the last.fm section, choosing "Personal Radio", playing the first few seconds of a song, then pausing and trying to play again, which replicates the bug.

Hello,

With RB 0.12.8, Last.fm Personal radio works but you can reproduce this bug:

1. Go to Library > Radio
2. Double clic on CBC Radio

The audio stream of this radio has moved and a request to http://www.cbc.ca/livemedia/cbcr1-toronto.m3u returns an HTTP 404 response with a web page (text/html) to explain the page was not found. Rhythmbox should detect the 404 response and not try to download a plugin for text/html.
Comment 9 David Edwards 2010-10-21 09:50:01 UTC
I can still reproduce this bug in 0.13.1:

1. Go to Library > Last.fm.
2. Click on Personal Radio.
3. Click Play.
4. Click >>| to go to the 2nd track in the playlist.
5. Double click the 1st song in the playlist.

Result:

I get a dialog saying:

"Search for suitable plugin?

The required software to play this file is not installed. You need to install suitable plugins to play media files. Do you want to search for a plugin that supports the selected file?

The search will also include software which is not officially supported."

Expected result:

Previous tracks should be unselectable if they are unplayable. Rather than the confusing error message, either a better error message should be displayed or it should automatically skip forward until it finds a track it can play.

I think this is the same error message I used to see when pausing and then resuming a track, but in 0.13.1 I now get a different unhelpful error message. But I think that's covered in bug 576538.

I have this problem too with Rhythmbox 0.12.8 with Ubuntu 10.04.
1) Open Rhythmbox
2) Click personal Radio
3) Click Stop
4)Click Play

Suspend/Hibernate also causes this on resume.
Comment 11 Jan Iven 2011-10-12 08:52:44 UTC
Still seeing this (lastFM, 404 or other HTML error message like too-old playlist after suspend/resume). Perhaps somebody could change the state form "UNCONFIRMED" to something more sensible?

Encountered this same bug today after about 30 minutes of listening to a particular station.

OS: Debian 6.0 - stable
rhythmbox version: 0.12.8-3 (plugin package containing lastfm is same version)
