Description Praveen Thirukonda 2009-12-13 14:29:21 UTC
so what i want is that if a subtitle is available for a video file being played locally then i want it to be available in the menu to be used.

currently it will either get automatically loaded or not at all.

so this way if subtitles are there then i can choose whether for a particular movie i want it or not.

this is what mplayer does iirc.

and this should be the default also.

extra points if there is something in main UI to indicate if subtitle found or not.

You can already enable and disable text subtitles from the View -> Subtitles menu.

correct me if i am wrong but as far as i can tell,
right now i cant make the subtitles (if present in that folder) available in the menu automatically when the video loads, but not have the video play with the subtitles enabled.

so that if i do want to enable the subtitle for a particular video then i can do it from the menu.

but for most videos i might not want the subtitle enabled, but the menu can tell me they aree available if i want to use.

No, text subtitles will not show up in the menu.

Either they'll be loaded automatically, and used, or not loaded at all.

We don't do that. You can already select a subtitle using the right-click menu on the item, or through the View -> Subtitles menu.

i thought so.
imho this is weird behaviour and most players eg mplayer, etc dont do it this way.

anyways consider this bug a request for this to be changed.
Comment 5 Praveen Thirukonda 2009-12-14 12:06:58 UTC
maybe one of the ways to do this could be to have 3 options
1 automatically load and use subtitles
2 load but dont use
3 no subtitles

though i would want 2 and 3 to be merged.
