GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 603237
make gnome-display-properties display aspect ratio information
Last modified: 2009-11-29 11:21:14 UTC
Created attachment 148658 [details] w3counter Oct 2009 stats and gnome-display-properties, both with aspect ratio information It would be nice if gnome-display-properties would display aspect ratio information. When I first bought myself a wide screen monitor, I had to use gcalctool to figure out which resolutions were among those that I could pick for a 16:10 desktop. As you can see in the attachment, people around the world use lots of different aspect ratios on their desktops. My bet is that some people who use the gnome-display-properties are unaware of the different aspect ratios that go with the resolutions that are listed in the top combo box. Some people might just see it as a list with resolutions from largest (top) to smallest (bottom), and users who picked 1280x720 might think their desktop aspect ratio is 16:10. What I suggest is that gnome-display-properties could display aspect ratio information. In the attached image you can see what I have in mind. (Of course this is just a quick example. A normal, black font and round brackets around the ratios would be better.)
