Description Pat Rondon 2001-09-10 01:46:09 UTC
I'd like to see grouping only occur if there are a specified number of
programs running, in addition to the number of instances. There's no sense
in grouping all five instances of Mozilla if it's the only thing running,
because then it's much harder to get to each instance.

See also #59692, which is related but not quite a duplicate.
Comment 2 Martin Pool 2002-02-04 06:26:56 UTC
I think the main issue here is that it's slightly silly to start
grouping tasks until all the space allocated to the taskbar has been
used up. I suppose that's somewhat complicated by the fact that some
taskbars can grow unboundedly, which might not be the most desired
behaviour.

You can also imagine a "group these windows" option on the popup, but
moving to the LRU mechanism of #59692 is probably best.

Moving to gnome-panel for comments.

I think this may just be a bug; I'm not sure it's supposed to
group if it has enough space.

Yeah. It shouldn't start grouping until not grouping would make the
buttons under some threshold in width (by default at least).
Comment 7 Vincent Noel 2005-01-28 14:34:47 UTC
Moving to the right component. Sorry for the spam.
Comment 8 Vincent Untz 2006-01-22 22:22:19 UTC
Removing GNOME2.x target milestone for these bugs since this milestone hardly makes sense now.
Comment 9 Vincent Untz 2007-06-29 19:23:20 UTC
Hrm, this perfectly works now. Since a long time.
