GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 602766
Activities should also be a task switcher

For instance, when using gEdit, when I click on the gEdit icon in the panel section, it should have a similar drop-down to the clock widget allowing me to choose any application that is currently open. I don't think different windows for each app should be used, just one entry like the grouping in gnome-panel of all windows for one app, but it should definitely be able to do something. One of the first things I did when I saw this widget was to click on it, and was somewhat surprised that its just a space filler...
That's suppose dto be the "application menu" - see the design document for more details.
Thank you for the timely responses... If I understand this correctly, it seems like a nice idea. I guess for this to have legitimate functionality though I'll have to wait for GTK/Gnome 3.0? I still think there should be a more obvious way to switch apps, the alt-tab and Activities "Application" section are all well and good, but so far they're certainly not particularly intuitive imo (I had to see a blog explaining what the highlights meant in the Activities Application section to even realize it was highlighted)
