Binary package hint: nautilus

Every time you plug in a USB hard drive with images on it, a dialog pops up asking what you want to do with it. "You have just inserted a medium with digital photos. Choose what application to launch." Instead of a drop-down menu, it should use buttons for each action, so it just takes one click to get through.

I'm not sure how this would scale with an arbitrary number of applications installed on the system.

Could you provide a mock-up of the user experience you're trying to achieve?

This is now obsolete with the hotplug notifications being handled in the shell [1]. Closing as obsolete.
