The issue about the "useless dialog" is already reported as bug #591082. The launchpad bug #464957 isn't really a bug. To configure GDM you need to set the GConf keys for the "gdm" user. That is how GDM is designed. Note bug #587750 is already filed that GDM needs a GUI interface to make configuring GDM easier. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 591082 ***
