GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 601588
Impossible to add new MSN contact
Last modified: 2010-07-10 05:00:44 UTC
Binary package hint: empathy When adding a new MSN contact to the list, as soon as I stop writing anything for about 2 seconds, Empathy replaces everything with my own contact information making it impossible to add any other contact. ** What's expected to happen ** Enter the new contact's information like email address, alias (nickname) and eventually a group. ** What happens instead ** Empathy replaces all the information with my own information (email, nick and group) after 2 seconds when not writing anything. ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 Date: Wed Nov 11 12:35:15 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 9.10 "Karmic Koala" - Release amd64 (20091027) NonfreeKernelModules: wl nvidia Package: empathy 2.28.1.1-0ubuntu1 ProcEnviron: LANG=it_IT.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-14.48-generic SourcePackage: empathy Uname: Linux 2.6.31-14-generic x86_64 Dependencies: ------------- http://launchpadlibrarian.net/35530103/Dependencies.txt XsessionErrors: --------------- http://launchpadlibrarian.net/35530104/XsessionErrors.txt
Which version of telepathy-butterfly are you using? Could you try using 0.5.3 and see if that helps? It's packaged in our PPA https://edge.launchpad.net/~telepathy/+archive/ppa
I too have this same problem. I added the ppa:telepathy/ppa repository but still the same problem. DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 9.10 "Karmic" NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Package: empathy 2.28.1.1 Kernal: 2.6.31-14-generic SourcePackage: empathy
I can confirm this bug on 2.28.1.1 on opensuse 11.2
Could you please attach butterfly and empathy logs?
I have just tested this on Fedora 12 and the same thing happens. I can type the MSN user name and as soon as I tab down to the Alias field, it replaces it with #1 on the end of the Identifier name and writes this in the following in the Empathy log - empathy/(null)-DEBUG: 1.258900e+09: tp_contact_factory_add_contact: Contact added: test@msn.com#1 (19) empathy/(null)-DEBUG: 1.258900e+09: tp_contact_factory_got_known_avatar_tokens: Got 0 tokens, need to request 0 avatars empathy/(null)-DEBUG: 1.258900e+09: empathy_tp_contact_factory_set_alias: Setting alias for contact test@msn.com#1 (19) to test@msn.com And this is what I see in the Butterfly log - butterfly/aliasing-DEBUG: 1.258900e+09: Called GetAliases butterfly/aliasing-DEBUG: 1.258900e+09: Called GetAliases papyon/papyon.transport-DEBUG: 1.258900e+09: >>> PNG papyon/papyon.transport-DEBUG: 1.258900e+09: <<< QNG 48
Not sure if it helps but I also have the error logged in bug id 601359. The fact that not everyone is seeing this, could this be related to something like the age of the MSN account? I am grasping at straws but I can consistently make this error occur and it is so obvious, I would have thought a lot more people would have logged this error if it was more widespread? Just a thought?
Reopening as log seems to be provided.
The suffixing of the MSN account by "#1" is unforunate but shouldn't block you from adding the contact. Does it not work if you let empathy add the suffix once you have enter the full MSN address?
Closing this bug report as no further information has been provided. Please feel free to reopen the bug if the problem still occurs with a newer version of GNOME 2.30.2 or later, thanks.
