GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 601162
Add IRC channels into contact list
Last modified: 2010-07-06 14:55:25 UTC
Hello, Adding IRC channel (or any other protocols, you call it MUC?) into contact list should be something very usefull. The contact list can contain by default all MUC... plus all connected MUC. Then it allow to connect or not, and to see the connexion status (without need of an open window https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=599184). Miranda IM work like that. Thanks a lot.
I don't understand. The list of rooms is already in the "Room" menu. Why do you want to put them in the *contacts* list?
Because a channel or a contact use the same behaviour: something you can talk with. Merge them allow to: * see where you are connected * see where you can connect (favorits) * sort your channels into your groups Then, more usefull than a static menu. As a result, you can remove that "room" menu.
I agree with Bayo on this one, coming from Pidgin I found confusing that IRC channels are not treated as contacts.
I'm running Fedora 13 and am seeing this problem. It was very confusing, because Empathy is described as supporting IRC, and I had installed telepathy-idle as indicated in all the online support articles I found. However I had to drop into the IRC channel to get someone to explain this workaround to me. I think it would be great if IRC could be exposed in the account wizard.
This is a sensible idea to add a list of subscribed to IRC channels in the contacts list.
Closing as a dup of bug #599184 as that's basically the same idea. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 599184 ***
