When I use programs like less in vte based terminals, I will see the contents of the previous file I've looked at.  I've had this display unencrypted passwords in plain sight.

Using terminals like xterm etc. don't do this.  I first noticed this in xfce4 terminal (Terminal 0.4.2 (Xfce 4.6.1)) on Arch Linux, and double checked with sakura and gnome-terminal.
