GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 599644
can't enable automounting for fixed media
Last modified: 2012-11-12 21:05:36 UTC
'/apps/nautilus/preferences/media_automount' key does automounting for removable media. But there is no way to do the same with fixed media like NTFS of FAT partitions. If changes in the UI (Preferances) is not welcome, then you can leave this option internal, ie accessible only via gconf-editor. The key can be named '/apps/nautilus/preferences/fixed_media_automount'.
Any news on this? There needs to be a way of auto mounting of partitions on fixed drives which are not listed in fstab. I auto start some apps which need certain partitions mounted at startup. For example, when you do that with rhythmbox and the partition is not automounted, then your music library will be emptied in rb and you will have to wait rb to rescan *all* the files again after you manually mount, to get your library back! Very annoying.
With udisks 2.x you can set the UDISKS_AUTO variable in udev, see http://git.gnome.org/browse/gvfs/tree/monitor/udisks2/what-is-shown.txt http://udisks.freedesktop.org/docs/latest/udisks.8.html for more information.
