GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 598506
Obtuse Empathy configuration for Google Apps
Last modified: 2010-02-09 10:42:36 UTC
Google Apps users cannot simply use the Google Talk account type in Empathy and enter their emaill address & password. I'm not sure why the configuration is not the same but the following settings need to be applied: * Encryption required (TLS/SSL) * Server: talk.google.com * Port: 5223 * Use old SSL: true credit: http://collaboration.dnoble.org/2007/05/configuring-pidgin-for-google-apps.html
You don't have to use old style SSL or define the server address. If that doesn't work that's probably a problem with your router.
My router is fine and GTalk still displays "Network Error" for a Google Apps account on default settings. I think you are confusing regular GTalk with Google Apps.
I would say that this is a duplicate of bug #601089, since the workaround for that bug also makes GTalk for Google Apps accounts work. This makes sense, since you can use the GMail servers for your Google Apps GMail accounts as well.
