It is possible to add new tags to f-spot simply by entering their name when tagging images. This is a great, fast, efficient way of adding new tags. However the new tag is often added in an inconvenient location in the tag hierarchy. The problems arise when selecting the tag to edit its parent.

Example: In Taxonomy the naming of plants and animals is done according to a hierarchical biological classification. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biological_classification ). This hierarchy translates excellently to the f-spot tag structure and allows very useful selective retrieval of images. It does mean that the tag list can rapidly reach several hundreds. Typically I would have a tag that I have attached to the wrong parent and wish to choose a new parent.

The problem arises when I right-click on the tag, select "edit selected tag", then try and choose a new parent. The only keys available to help narrow down the pop-up list that is displayed are HOME/END/PgUp/PgDn. It would be very useful if:

1. The user could manually enter the name of the parent (as I almost always know it exactly).
2. A keypress would initiate a partial pattern search on the beginning of the tag name.
