The current clock is unreadable if I'm using a dark background or dark
backgrounded application (gnome-terminal in fullscreen mode with a black
background)

I meant calendar widget.

It's not meant to have a completely transparent background, it's a bug in older libcroco that we need to figure a workaround for.
