Description Praveen Thirukonda 2009-09-21 16:19:53 UTC
While https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=164918 deals with saving position when pausing and closing

IMHO the behaviour should be just like evince ie do the save automatically
when the movie is closed either automatically like shutdown, battery finished or
by the user.

Having the user always click pause to save is a very bad idea and also defeats
the purpose of this plugin.

The save should be automatic and seamless.

manual closing
like when totem is closed by pressing X in the title bar ie normal closing by the user.

Automatic closing cases

if something goes wrong, either in totem or
> some other component (kernel, X, audio ...), or just a plain power outage on a
> desktop, it would be good to be able to keep the position. Is that feasible, or

That's already what it does. Could you at least test the code before making assumptions?

For the battery dead problem, gnome-power-manager will suspend your laptop to the hard disk when running low on battery, and, for a desktop, you'd better invest in a UPS.

Writing the current file position at each tick would eat even more battery.

sorry am not using GNOME 2.28 right now but from the bug

[Bug 164918] Remember current position when Pause is clicked

it states the position is saved when pause is clicked and then closed.

i want it to saved in the case that i close a playing movie directly also for the automatic cas in the comments for that bug itself the dev told to open a new bug.

Or am i understanding it wrong?

hmm while for the auto cases these aren't the ideal solutions these are the most practical ones.

and for the manual closing case?

This was the title of the bug. Reopen this when you've actually tested the behaviour instead of making judgements based on bug titles.
