Description Catherine 2009-09-06 18:04:51 UTC
I installed the most recent version of Balsa (Sept 4, 2009) on my Acer Aspire One (netbook) running Ubuntu Jaunty. This netbook has a very small screen -- 9.5 inches, I believe.

The app opens with an unmaximized window that is too large for the screen. The bottom of the window, containing the toolbar, does not show. I cannot resize the window. The grab bars don't seem to work - neither does the resize option from the "taskbar". Resize will enlarge the window, but not shrink it vertically.

This sort of problem happens quite often with the Acer Netbook -- that the control buttons of a window do not show, making the app unusable. The typical workaround is to resize the window to be narrower, thus making the control buttons appear. That can't be done with Balsa.

Note: I am not an experienced Ubuntu user -- perhaps there is some setting somewhere that tells the OS how small the screen really is; however other apps seem to work, although manual resizing is sometimes required.

I have the same version of Ubuntu and Balsa running on a Dell laptop with regular screen (15") and everything is fine.

Thank you,

Catherine

Thanks for the report!

What is the screen resolution of the netbook? And is that the install assistant tool, or Balsa itself?

OK, I see the issue: the netbook has 600 px vertically, and the install assistant is built with 640 px (plus whatever borders the window manager decorates it with). Allowing the assistant to show at its natural size gives one that renders on my laptop at 553 px, including Metacity borders. I've committed it to git master.

Resolving as fixed...
