GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 593992
Evolution hangs at 'Send'
Last modified: 2010-11-12 05:51:30 UTC
I am facing a problem that another person has already reported on the Ubuntu bug tracker here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/407574 I just did a fresh install of Ubuntu Jaunty, and now Evolution hangs while sending a mail. If I had clicked the Send/Receive button, then new emails are received smoothly, and then it hangs during send. The status bar at the bottom says: "Sending message (100% complete)", and "Generating message list (...)" and "Storing folder (100% complete)", with a small animated icon next to the status messages showing that it is busy. The first mail in the outbox is now displayed with a strike-through line, but is not purged from there. CPU usage by evolution is 100% (or 50% on this dual core machine). Evolution continues to be responsive, in that I can click on "New message" and a new window pops up for composing a message. If I click on one of the email folders (Sent, Inbox, etc.) they get highlighted, but no email list is displayed. If I kill evolution and start it again then all the emails are still in outbox, while the first email is in the sent items also. I am using POP/SMTP.
Some extra information: - Just before my fresh installation of the OS, my /home partition was 100% full. At that time Evolution started to behave differently: It would say that it was unable to store a folder. At one point all the messages in the Inbox started appearing twice. I was wondering if my evolution data files had been corrupted. However, after the fresh install I cleared out my /home partition, and everything seems to be normal again now. - I don't think this should matter, but for completeness: My previous OS was 64-bit Ubuntu, and now it is 32-bit.
Could you please provide traces of evolution hang , start evolution in terminal under gdb, do ctrl+c when it hangs and then 'thread a a bt' and paste the traces here. see http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces/Details#gdb-not-yet-running for details about how to do this And please install debug info packages in case you don't have.
Created attachment 142450 [details] Backtrace
could be a sqlite bug could you please install debuginfo packages for evolution-data-server and evolution and paste the traces again, thanks.
Created attachment 142452 [details] Backtrace 1 Backtrace after adding debug symbols for evolution and evolution-data-server.
Can you please check again if the issue you reported here still happens in a recent version of GNOME and update this report by adding a comment and adjusting the 'Version' field? Again thank you for reporting this and sorry that it could not be fixed for the version you originally used here. Without feedback this report will be closed as INCOMPLETE after 6 weeks.
Closing this bug report as no further information has been provided. Please feel free to reopen the bug if the problem still occurs with a newer version of Evolution 2.32.0 or later, thanks.
