GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 592821
Evince auto-reloads and comes to foreground
Last modified: 2013-06-15 07:33:25 UTC
When the PDF (or other file) changes, Evince will automatically reload the file and bring the Evince window to the foreground (though NOT focus Gnome's attention to that window). This causes many problems when working with LaTeX (therefore constantly regenerating PDFs, possibly with mistakes) or editing EPS files. There should be some way to disable the auto-reload feature (though I fail to see a reason why it was implemented to begin with; having the "reload" menu item along with the CTRL-R keyboard shortcut was more than sufficient implementation). Alternately, reloading the window WITHOUT bringing it to the foreground would solve the problem.
Can you tell me how this issue was fixed? I couldn't find anything in the git logs.
This issue wasn't fixed. Please reopen.
I'm reopening this by request, though I personally do not see it anymore. It used to be that every time Evince reloaded, it brought itself to the foreground (obscuring the terminal window I was using). It no longer does so; it just reloads quietly in the background, without obscuring anything. Perhaps the bug was actually in another Gnome component, in which case it should be marked as a bug in that component. I will mark this bug closed with another reason if that is confirmed, but if other posters still experience problems, I'll keep it open.
Is anyone still experiencing this problem? I actually find that Evince 2.30.3 doesn't re-load at all unless I ask it to with CTRL-R. If that's the case, I'll mark it as "RESOLVED" and go my merry way.
with 3.2.1 on oneiric, I get this. Focus steal is really horrid, in any case.
Marking this as duplicated as solution proposed is mentioned in a comment: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=640441#c10 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 640441 ***
