Description Praveen Thirukonda 2009-08-23 12:10:22 UTC
as the personal information is set per account so both can be merged.

though while doing so there should be a way to set the personal infromation once and then use it for all accounts, which is not possible right now also.

Praveen, thanks for the suggestion. It sounds as though you think that:

1) the Edit: Personal Information dialog should be merged with the Edit: Accounts dialog, since they both control very similar information

2) it's bothersome to have to type in the same contact details/personal info over and over for multiple accounts, so it would be nice to only have to type it in once

Could you be a little more specific in describing the desired behavior in part 2? What personal information are you interested in saving and reusing: full name, avatar, e-mail address, screenname/alias? Would this be via a special wizard that runs at first startup/setup and then autopopulates all New Account dialogs in the future, or would Empathy just remember the details from the first account the user sets up and then autopopulate any future New Account dialogs with the most recent fullname and alias/screenname?

Sumana,
Yes 1) and 2) are along the lines of what i am thinking.

Empathy should probably just remember the details from the
first account the user sets up and then autopopulate any future New Account
dialogs with the most recent details.

A wizard on first run is bad as
a: on first run then the process of setting up is getting longer than necessary, which would be annoying. Maybe on last step of current wizard to set up accounts it could be mentioned that these setting are available in so and so menu.

But on future accounts that are set up maybe the last screen could show the Personal information page where everything is auto populated using previous details. And user just clicks finish/next to confirm.

What personal information are you interested in saving and reusing: full
name, avatar, e-mail address, screenname/alias?

as much as possible. more the reuse, less the work for user
