GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 591942
Cannot record video
Last modified: 2009-10-25 11:57:57 UTC
I cannot record a video with cheese. I start cheese, select "record video", wait till I am shown in the window, select "stop recording". A new icon appears below. When I double-click on it, Totem starts, but it only shows a black video. My drivers are okay, I see a video from mine in the cheese window, it just is not recorded. I have used the binaries from Ubuntu and compiled my own - same problem. Can you give me any hint how to narrow down the problem?
I frequently get this on the command line: libv4l2: error converting / decoding frame data: v4l-convert: error parsing JPEG header: Not a JPG file ?
Thanks for reporting this bug. I've tested it on my netbook running ubuntu 9.04 and it works fine. Without a stack trace from the crash it's very hard to determine what caused it. Can you get us a stack trace? Please see http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces for more information on how to do so. Thanks in advance!
It does not crash.
Note: I cannot remove the status NEEDINFO for this bug report.
Closing this bug report as the reporter can't reproduce it anymore.
I can reproduce this bug, but it is not a crash.
Are you using cheese in a netbook?
Yes. It is a Dell Latitude 2100 (with touchscreen :) It has an integrated 1.3M pixel webcam.
Are you, perchance, opening cheese on an external monitor? i.e. not your netbook's screen?
(In reply to comment #9) > Are you, perchance, opening cheese on an external monitor? i.e. not your > netbook's screen? No I am using my netbook's screen. I am using Ubuntu 9.04.
I don't know if the libv4l error is really important... It seems our usual bug with netbooks... currently cheese simply fails to record videos on low power processors. See the duplicated bug and bug 584075 comment 5 for more info. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 564957 ***
