Try putting a .is_audio_player file in the root of the player and see if banshee picks it up.
Comment 3 Bernd Schlapsi 2009-07-10 14:59:39 UTC
I created the ".is_audio_player" file and banshee detected the sony walkman as media player.
But is this the normal way for a user? Should every linux user create this file?
Comment 4 William Witt 2009-07-10 19:04:46 UTC
no, however it means that the HAL people have to update their fdi files so that other programs will work as well.

On my system (Linux Mint 7) the fdi files that you would want look at:

/usr/share/hal/fdi/information/20thirdparty/20-libmtp8.fdi
/usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/10-usb-music-players.fdi
/usr/share/hal/fdi/preprobe/10osvendor/20-libgphoto2.fdi
