GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 587457
away is auto changed to available
Last modified: 2010-03-06 16:08:38 UTC
Steps to reproduce: - set the status to "away" - wait the idle time (you can set it using gnome-screensaver) - move the mouse result: you are marked as available Additional question: shouldn't you be marked as "idle" when idle and not away?
I see from the code that this is a wanted behavior. So if you want you can close this bug. But I'm not so sure that this is the correct choice
This is the desired behaviour, yes. The reason is you are obviously not away since you moved your mouse... It makes presence really easy, you can just trust empathy to set the correct presence automatically for you.
You didn't consider the possibility of someone that wants to appear away
That's something that got discussed a lot, and we decided to not encourage users to lie on their presence. It's preferable to make presence easy to those that use presence correctly than giving the possiblity to lie. If you are on your computer but don't want to get disturbed, you should set your presence to busy and not away.
Its not the responsibility of the application to lie or speak the truth. It should work as the user want it to.
