GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 586085
Unable to save as jpeg
Last modified: 2009-09-27 16:25:17 UTC
Please describe the problem: The file type drop down on the UI only has a single entry for PNG, but the advanced tab has a Compression settings for JPEG Steps to reproduce: 1. Select Scanner Utility from the Menu Actual results: Can only select PNG as the image type to save Expected results: A dropdown box with at least JPEG and PNG and possibly other formats. Does this happen every time? Yes Other information:
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue. gnome-scan uses GEGL operations for saving. Currently, GEGL is under development and there is still no GEGL operation for saving jpeg. That's why gnome-scan can only save to png. Those compression settings for JPEG are a feature of your scanner and the hplip software. It is not used for saving the scanned document, but for transmission between the scanner and the application (SANE frontend) you use for scanning, in this case gnome-scan. If you need more information, just ask. Best regards, Philipp

I think there is two bug under thise request: 1/ actual configuration cause misunderstood, cause I also do not understand why there is an option to set up jpeg compression and no possibility to save as jpeg. => maybe these option should be renamed or completely hide, cause I don't imagine that an average user (for which gnome-scan is destinate) can configure this setting. 2/ There should be a possibility to save as jpeg (and pdf, but this is another story). I look to the GEGL bugzilla and didn't find any request about this subject. Can you confirm it and tell me if someone (or me) should open a bug to request it in GEGL?
Just forget to mention the link to GEGL open bugs: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/buglist.cgi?product=GEGL;bug_status=NEW;bug_status=ASSIGNED;bug_status=REOPENED
This bug (at least the second issue that I have described) seems to be a duplicate from "Bug 448505 - jpg compression support" : https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=448505 I open a new bug for the first issue (actual jpeg setting are not understandable)
Hi, Thanks for the bug report. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find. Yes, i'm still waiting for gegl:jpeg-save op ( http://gegl.org/operations.html ) and having time to add it to GNOME Scan. That should be easy to backport to 0.6. Regards, Étienne. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 448505 ***
