Description Bartek Kostrzewa 2009-05-23 12:18:05 UTC
I have a few documents which have different page labels (lower-case roman, arabic numerals) in various places on each page depending on the layout. For some reason poppler or evince don't properly use these page labels to number the pages. I have other documents of similar labelling where it works without fail.

I don't hold the copyright on the documents so I can't reproduce them here. If there is any non-content information that I can extract from them I'd be happy to help.

This is with evince-2.26.1-0ubuntu1

This bug was reported against a version which is not supported any more. Developers are no longer working on this version so there will not be any bug fixes for it.
Can you please check again if the issue you reported here still happens in a recent version of GNOME and update this report by adding a comment and adjusting the 'Version' field?

Again thank you for reporting this and sorry that it could not be fixed for the version you originally used here.

Without feedback this report will be closed as INCOMPLETE after 6 weeks.

can you attach one file example?

One example is here:

http://www.iop.org/publications/iop/2008/file_42740.pdf

The title page is not numbered and the page label "1" is not used as a numbering scheme.

Here's another one:

http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/about_JPL/jpl101.pdf

It has a few unnumbered pages and then uses labels starting from "2" but evince does not number them in that pattern.

This one, on the other hand, now works correctly (it's the document with roman numerals I was referring to, however, this might also have to do with the fact that it's a newer version of the document):

This is on 2.32.0 on ubuntu 11.04
