GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 583426
Option to open downloaded file has disappeared
Last modified: 2009-05-22 06:13:42 UTC
In older versions of epiphany, when I downloaded a file I was asked whether I want to open it in the appropriate handler or save it to disk (which would prompt with the Save dialog). With the webkit backend, this no longer happens, and all files behave as if I pressed 'save to disk'. This makes it more annoying to do view files that I don't want to permanently download, but just view. For example, before I could click a link to a PDF document and press Open to view it in Evince; now I have to pause and think about where I want to save the file, then minimise Epiphany and activate Nautilus, then remember where I saved the file and navigate to that directory, then locate the file in the list of files, then open it... it's a lot more annoying now. :)
Does the 'Automatic download and open files' checkbox in the Preferences make any difference?
By the way, if you're using Debian, they have a patch changing Epiphany's default behaviour in this regard. If you're on Debian, please check if this is the reason for the different behaviour.
The option in preferences makes no difference. Although I am using Debian, I when I use the gecko backend I get the normal Open/Save As dialog box. But the webkit backend prompts me to save a download explicitley no matter whether the preference is enabled or disabled.
This needs the patch in bug #576788, which hasn't been finished yet. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 576788 ***
