Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
Without a stack trace from the crash it's very hard to determine what caused it.
Can you get us a stack trace? Please see http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces for more information on how to do so. Thanks in advance!

Are their equivalent instructions for Windows users?

Not currently, although this should probably be fixed. https://developer.mozilla.org/en/How_to_get_a_stacktrace_with_WinDbg has a guide that might help as a starting point (ignore the section about downloading symbols from the Mozilla symbol server, but everything else should be usable).

I am having a hard time getting the xtra infos about bug buddy (no help available). However, may I say, that I used GIMP on a previous version (May 2008) and no bugs were appearing. Always been smooth to work with. Since my recent restore and reloading - it crashes non stop as soon as I click on "open file" and try to get any function under "colour".

This is probably a duplicate of the - already duplicated numerous times - color menus crash on some Vista systems?
Comment 6 Michael Schumacher 2009-05-18 09:54:32 UTC
Duplicate of bug #577581?
Comment 7 Michael Natterer 2009-06-14 17:38:30 UTC
Most likely a dup.
