Description sammy 2009-05-05 20:29:06 UTC
Please describe the problem:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I normally use a dual screen setup with a VGA and my laptop screen. I've moved the one and only panel that I have to the bottom of the VGA screen (which by the way had to be moved with "Alt" even though I've selected "Super" for that??). I occasionally change my setup to use laptop screen + TMDS-1. When I switch back to VGA + LVDS, the panel is positioned at the bottom of the laptop screen. But I think the position should be remembered from previous setups or at least at stay at the far bottom/top as before adding/removing a screen.

In both configurations (VGA or LCD + laptop) I have one screen above the other (to make the total area less than 2048x2048). My desire is that the panel stays at the bottom, regardless of the setup of screens.

I switch screens using xrandr

Steps to reproduce:
1. Place the panel at the bottom of a dual screen setup (one above the other)
2. Turn off one of the screens and add a new screen (or the same again)
3. The panel position is not preserved.

Actual results:
The panel that is, at first, placed at the bottom of my VGA screen ends up being placed at my laptop screen. Then I can only move it with "Alt" even though "Super" is selected for moving things.

Expected results:
Desirably the panel position is remembered from previous setups, but at least consistent in bottom or top of desktop.

Does this happen every time?
Yes

bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old bug reports in Bugzilla which have not seen updates for many years.

If you can still reproduce this issue in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-panel/-/issues/

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
