One of our technical writers suggested to me that most people probably
won't notice the [square brackets] and slightly dimmer icons which denote
iconified windows in the tasklist.  She suggested perhaps a background
color change for that iconified tasks would be more noticable, and with
that additional help, people would be find it easier to figure out what was
going on.

This is probably an excellent item for usability testing.

Other possibilities include italicizing the text of minimized
applications. Moving into gnome-panel, as it affects 2.0
