Description Michel Dänzer 2009-03-13 10:20:04 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Every now and then (on the order of every couple of hours, i.e. several times a day) the preview pane starts hanging with 'Formatting Message...' when selecting a new message. After about 30 seconds, the message preview appears. The only way to recover is to restart Evolution.

When this happens, a secondary symptom is that when deleting a message, its preview remains visible, as well as its striked through entry in the folder view, until manually selecting another message, which triggers the primary symptom again.

I will attach a gdb backtrace from when the preview pane is hanging.

Steps to reproduce:
Just reading and deleting mail for a while. Haven't been able to determine any specific trigger.

Actual results:

Expected results:

Does this happen every time?

Other information:
This didn't happen until and including Evolution 2.22.x.

It happens on my main machine but not on another one with a very similar setup, I haven't been able to determine what makes the difference.

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=466749 might be related.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/175233 could be about the same problem, at least the later comments.

Bug 563563 sounds similar, but attaching to evolution-data-server during a hang doesn't show similar backtraces, and killing it doesn't recover from the problem.

Backtrace during hang

Let me know if I should get another one with more debugging packages installed, but I think the interesting thread with __pthread_cond_timedwait on top should have all the interesting symbols.
