Description Marco Barisione 2009-02-13 18:43:10 UTC
Now it's possible to sort the contact list only by name and state, I propose to add also sorting by log size as it's a good way to have on top of the list the contacts you spend more time talking to.
Comment 1 Luis Villa 2009-02-13 18:50:46 UTC
Comment I just made in bug 571670:

So, I have an absolute ton of contacts; I only care about the ones who I
actually talk with. I'd like to see those people's statuses at a glance on my
contact list. I get this with pidgin, where contacts are sorted by the size of
the logfile I have with someone. I'd like the same in empathy; instead at a
glance I see... people whose names start with 'A'. :) Not optimal.

The solution to this may well not be log size; may be something else like
number of conversations or whatever. But something better than alphabetical.

Thanks!

This is perhaps best put in another bug, but I should add that I'm having a very, very hard time seeing what the use case for 'sort by status' is.

If it is just sort by overal status Available/Busy/Away/Offline it should work. You get to see the people available at first, and the one offline last.
Comment 5 Luis Villa 2009-02-13 20:03:15 UTC
It works fine, but it just doesn't seem very useful. Hiding offline makes sense, but since the other statuses are effectively all 'I'm still available, just be polite' sorting by them doesn't seem to have much practical impact to me.

Yes that one thing keeping me from leaving pidgin.. Sort by log size.

+1 ^^
Comment 8 Dan Ballard 2009-10-09 07:58:58 UTC
Yep, this is also keeping me from moving from pidgin to empathy, which is a shame, because aside from tiny cosmetic, but surprisingly crucial reasons, empathy seems technically superior under the hood, especially with the video chat support.
