Description Wouter Bolsterlee (uws) 2009-02-02 12:13:01 UTC
Most actions triggered by mouse events on the title bar of a window can also be performed on the contents of the window (i.e. not the titlebar) by holding down Alt (or whatever modifier has been configured). Examples:

- Focusing: Left click on titlebar == Alt + left click on window
- Window menu: Right click on titlebar == Alt + right click on window
- Moving: Left drag on titlebar == Alt + left drag on window

Now, a window can be sent to the back by middle clicking on its titlebar. However, Alt + middle click on a window does not send it to the back. It should!

Note that Alt + middle drag is used to resize a window. Suggestion: when the (x,y) position of the pointer do not change between mouse button press and mouse button release, it should be treated as a "send window to back" command.

<Alt> mouse actions for raising/lowering would be great. I use a patched metacity for the sole purpose* of raising/lowering with <Alt>+mouse wheel.

* now that the button2/button3 swap feature has been released

Note: Alt + left click already works for raising windows.

bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old bug reports in Bugzilla which have not seen updates for many years.

If you can still reproduce this issue in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/metacity/-/issues/

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
