Description Pere Quintana Seguí 2009-01-13 09:18:32 UTC
To have spell checking in, for example, two languages on must navigate the whole Edit menu several times: two to add the new languages and one to deselect an already active language (that's the worse case scenario, but I'm often in this situation. Romance languages are often too similar and two of them should not be activated at the same time).

I suggest to add a button somewhere in the toolbar that opens a new window or a multi-choise list that does not disappear when one language is selected or deselected.

It is frustrating to do the whole Edit>Languages thing.

Another option would be to have a button on the toolbar which shows the name of the language (or a flag) and when the user clicks on it, it changes the active language, rotating through the available dictionaries.

This solves another problem. Having two, or more, active spelling dictionaries might cause problems, because sometimes a word is correctly spelled in one language and not in the other. This is usual between romance languages. I guess that this happens also between languages belonging to other families (slavic, scandinavian, etc.).

There is an extension for thunderbird that implements this and I find it quite useful.

This is similar enough to bug #561799 that I'm closing this as a dupe. But the Thunderbird addon looks interesting. I'll make a note of it in the other bug.
