Description alex gould 2008-12-29 15:16:53 UTC
Please describe the problem:
The clock applet doesn't restore the default location for weather information on restart.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Add one or more weather locations to the clock applet.
2. Set a default weather location (the temperature and conditions icon will display next to the time)
3. Remove the applet from the panel and add it again, or restart the gnome session

Actual results:
The saved locations are still accessible but the default is forgotten -- only the time is displayed.

Expected results:
The default should be remembered.

Does this happen every time?
Yes

If you remove the applet and add it again, it's expected to not work.

Are you sure it's happening when logging out and in again? Can you put the gconf configuration of your clock here? It's in /apps/panel/applets/{something}/prefs

I just tested it again with clock applet 2.25.3, gnome vers. 2.25.4 from Ubuntu Jaunty. Upon logging out and logging back in, the home location is forgotten; no weather indicator shows next to the time.

This is happening also in Clock 2.28.0 on Ubuntu Karmic (current stable).

The reporter fulfilled the request almost a year ago and nothing was done with that. Why ask the reporter for information if you clearly don't really want it?

In the least, can somebody who has permission please update the version to reflect that this is a bug in the most current version?

Upgraded the latest affected version.

Thank you

I wonder why this doesn't get fixed. It seems like, for someone who knows the code, this is a pretty straightforward issue. Even if they can't reproduce it, again, it seems straightforward enough that with the help of somebody who can reproduce it, it should be fairly easy to fix.

Why's that?

Is this also the case if the panel crashes and is respawned? Shouldn't the home location be remembered in that situation?

Why don't you just give me a pointer to the code that does this restoring of the home location and I will see if I can fix it.

bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old bug reports in Bugzilla which have not seen updates for many years.

If you can still reproduce this issue in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-panel/-/issues/

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
