Description Milan Crha 2008-12-22 15:43:49 UTC
Moving this here from the downstream bugzilla:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=477178

The birthday calendar in evolution doesn't work as expected. I have entered all
my contacts birthday into their profile in evolution Contacts. After that, I
have enabled the birthday calendar into the calendar section. At this moment,
the calendar was working as it is expected.

But, after a reboot, the birthday don't show up into the calendar view. I have
unchecked and rechecked the birthday calendar but it does nothing.

The birthday is set into the profile of the contacts even after a reboot, so
it's not this component that is at fault.

If I add new birthday, they show up in the calendar but after a reboot, they
are not there anymore.

If I change a contact birthday, it show up in the calendar but after a reboot,
they are not there anymore.

Let me know if you need more informations.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Add birthday information to contact profile
2.Activate birthday calendar
3.Reboot
Actual Results:
The birthday don't show up into calendar view

Expected Results:
The birthday show up into calendar view

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm sort of able to reproduce this, it does for me every ~10 start of evolution, sometimes sooner, sometimes later. I've no clue what's going wrong here.

In my calendar some birthdays and anniversaries show up, others don't. If I re-edit the address book entry for a missing birthday (I re edit a text field say - not the birthday date), the birthday shows up again in the calendar for a while, then it's gone again. It is as though there are too many birthdays for the system to keep up with. I suggest the severity status is raised much higher (at least Major). How can you rely on a calendar when entries are written in magic ink - here today - gone tomorrow?

Jacek, I completely agree with you : How can I use a calendar that is not reliable...

The bug is pretty easy to reproduce, at work, everyone can reproduce it. If I can provide more information, just let me know.
