GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 563488
Use yr.no as a provider for free weather data in libgweather.
Last modified: 2012-12-02 18:56:47 UTC
yr.no is a Norwegian service providing forecasts for 700,000 places in Norway and 6.3 million places worldwide. « yr.no is unique in Europe because of our very detailed weather forecasts and our free data policy. » - [a] They provide data in English, Norwegian Bokmål and Norwegian Nynorsk (XML [1], PHP [2] and GRIB [3]). There are also APIs for radar images [4] , and for 'ExtremesWWC' - Wettest, Warmest and Coldest places [5]. If/when Google Translate fails, I'll be happy to help/translate.

Are there any plans on doing this? The data is free and it would be a huge improvement to what we have now. -------------------- Information about the free weather data service yr.no offers free weather data in XML format for 7 million places around the world. As far as we know, this is the world's largest free weather service. You'll find a full overview of our services at yr.no/verdata (we offer XML-files of forecasts and observations, GRIB-files for ocean forecasts and several other services). Please read the requirements for free use of our data thoroughly. The information is only available in Norwegian. You have to be able to understand Norwegian or get someone to translate the requirements and regulations into your language. It is very important that you understand and follow the guidelines! We regularily monitor the downloads of our XML-files, and will block you without warning if you don't follow the requirements. We are sorry that this information is not available in English. yr.no is financed by Norwegian tax and license fee payers, and our main focus is Norwegian forecasts and services, although we do offer forecasts for every country and all major cities of the world. We are afraid to get overloaded with traffic if we translate the guidelines and promote the free weather data service in English. http://www.yr.no/verdata/1.6810075 --------------------
(In reply to comment #2) > Are there any plans on doing this? No one is actively hacking on libgweather these days. Patches are welcome.
I am, and I implemented this in wip/forecasts.
This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.
