Description Lior David 2008-11-10 12:22:17 UTC
Please describe the problem:
when I'm writing an Hebrew text (which is RTL - right to left directed), and trying to navigate with the keys, it's very usefull to use ctrl+left or ctrl+right for skipping between words.

but while right and left (arrow) keys are working fine, i.e left is forwarding you the later characters and right is moving you the previous one, ctrl+left is moving you the PREVIOUS word instead of the next one, and ctrl+right moving you the the NEXT word instead of the previous one.

movement with ctrl press should be visually-directed, since Hebrew users are used to "think" in right-to-left way, and for them the left key should be used for advancement in the sentence - the behavior must be exactly the opposite in comparison to LTR.

Steps to reproduce:
1. open gedit and start entering some hebrew text
2. press the right arrow key and see that the curser is moving backwards, as expected. then press the left arrow key and see the curser advancing.
3. now press ctrl+left and see the curser moving backwards instead of forward.

Actual results:
the directions of movement are wrong

Expected results:
ctrl+left should advance you in sentence, and ctrl+right should take you to the previous word.

Does this happen every time?
yes! not only in gedit, but in every textbox in every gnome/gtk application.

Other information:
didn't know where to file it, I hope this is the right place.
