GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 559449
Evo window unfocused when launched from firefox
Last modified: 2020-11-06 20:07:45 UTC
Steps to reproduce: 1. Open evo 2. Open Firefox 3. Select a link in Firefox and choose "Send link" 4. Wait for the evo mail window to appear 5. Wait. 6. Wait. 7. See that it's hidden below firefox. I'm not sure if it's a bug in metacity, firefox, or evolution. Right now, my guess is actually evolution, but I'm opening the bug here since the focus experts are here.
Well, not stealing focus is considered a virtue for a window manager. I think it's supposed to be like "Wait. Wait. See window flashing in the task bar. Switch to it." Of course it doesn't help if you have a hidden task bar.
Behdad: except that in this case, it wouldn't steal focus: it's what I want to do. I didn't type anything. It's like opening a document from nautilus.
This is most likely bug 273912, actually.
Yeah, but how is the WM supposed to know what you want to do? If we allow windows to raise themselves, windows will be able to pop up whenever they like it and you'll end up typing your passphrase into IRC just because someone said your name. (In reply to comment #1) > Of course it doesn't help if you have a hidden task bar. Would you prefer something in the notification area? We could do that.
bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old bug reports in Bugzilla which have not seen updates for many years. If you can still reproduce this issue in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/metacity/-/issues/ Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
