Something is exclusivly blocking alsa (in case this is linux). Please let us know what you have configured in gstreamer-properties.
You could also try to play with some other software to narrow it down.

This is almost certainly a system/configuration issue. Run gnome-sound-properties and select a different output method for sound/movies. Check out your distro's support channels if you need more help with this.
