GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 557268
evolution contacts do not match up with Outlook 2007 contacts
Last modified: 2013-07-23 14:28:45 UTC
Please describe the problem: After syncing the contacts, all the names and distribution names appear but the email addresses do not. The contact in out look has an Internet email address. The contact in Evolution does not have anything in either email address. Steps to reproduce: To reproduce the issue: Delete all contacts from Evo that are synced with Exchange account. * Open Outlook 2007. * Click on the Addressbook and choose the GAL. * Select all and right-click to choose "add to contacts" * wait * Close and re-open Evolution * After all the contacts have synced, there are names and phone numbers but no email addresses. Actual results: only names and phone numbers appear Expected results: email addresses should be populated Does this happen every time? yes Other information: reported at launchpad. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/274157
Could you please try evolution-mapi provider which support exchange 2007 server and report back, thanks.
Since you asked the OP to check out the Exchange-MAPI interface, and there hasn't been a response... I am running OpenSuSe 11.2 with Evo 2.29.20100112-1.2 x86_64 (which shows as 2.29.6 in the Help -> About box). The MAPI connector version is 0.29.5-1.3. I got both of these from one of the repositories, but I don't remember which. Due to the issues I constantly have, and the inability to get 2.28 to do anything right it seemed, I keep updating these whenever something becomes available. We are using Exchange 2003 and I also have access to Outlook 2007 as the OP indicated (he didn't say which Exchange version he was using). I can confirm that the contacts do show up in Evo with their GAL email addresses. We do not populate the contacts int he GAL with all the contact fields, such as address, etc. We do use the phone number field(s) though, and that, at least is not showing in Evo. I don't know if it was the intention/requirement to show group membership, alias' or other information that Outlook shows for GAL entries, but they too do not show up. I also maintain a personal contact list on our Exchange server, managed in Outlook of course. Not all of the contact information is seen in Evo. Not everything shows up with their proper labels. Example, all email addresses come across as "Other". Perhaps that was intended as Outlook labels them Email1, Email2, etc. Also, mailing address information isn't complete. For example, in Outlook at have both "Business" and home addresses for many contacts. What I see in Evo is that the Address box contains the complete home address, then the City, Zip, State, and Country fields are populated as well. Again, not sure if that was intended, but sort of doesn't make sense to show all of that twice. Also, the "Work" oor business address, does not show the address, but does contain the City, Zip, State, and Country data. Oh, the country and zip fields contain reversed data (each has the data from the other). Let me know if I can be of any assistance. We are starting a large Linux on System z project for which we are hiring developers with a heavy Linux background and I need to integrate this into our existing Windows network as I'm sure they will want to have Linux desktops vs. Windows (as would I). I have several more issues which I've posted in the OpenSuSE forums, but will open them up here as bugs. I just hate opening bugs if I'm not sure it is one. John
The "evolution-exchange" package only supports Exchange 2000 and 2003 servers. Newer versions such as Exchange 2007 and 2010 are not supported by "evolution-exchange". It is required to use the package "evolution-ews" (or to some extend "evolution-mapi") for newer version fo Exchange servers. If the problem/request described in this report still happens with a recent version of "evolution-ews" or "evolution-mapi", please add a comment to this report (and update the "product" setting accordingly if possible). There are currently no plans to continue the development of the package "evolution-exchange", so this report will soon be closed as WONTFIX. Thanks for your understanding and sorry that the reported problem was not solved in time in the package "evolution-exchange".
evolution-exchange only supports the older Microsoft Exchange server versions 2000 and 2003. The last stable release of evolution-exchange was 3.4.4 which took place a year ago. evolution-exchange is now deprecated and not under active development anymore. It is unlikely that there will be any further active development. Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping. Please feel free to reopen this bug report in the future if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again. Also feel free to reopen this ticket and change the "Product" field accordingly if the reported issue still happens with a recent version (newer than version 3.6) of one of those Exchange backends that are still supported. Please see https://help.gnome.org/users/evolution/3.8/exchange-connectors-overview.html for more information on available backends.
