GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 555517
Send & Receive Mail window cannot be minimized
Last modified: 2013-03-15 13:15:26 UTC
Send & Receive Mail window cannot be minimized. For users with slow or unreliable internet, the window which shows the Send & Receive Mail status should be able to be minimized so that we can continue to work with Evolution while waiting for the internet. Otherwise, the Send & Receive Mail window just sits there obstructing the main Evolution window. Distribution: Ubuntu 7.10 (gutsy) Gnome Release: 2.20.0 2007-09-17 (Ubuntu) BugBuddy Version: 2.18.1
We can resize the window. Can you please try current stable 2.24.0 or at least 2.22.3.1, thanks.
The negative operational characteristic (bug?) is also in my wife's laptop. She is running ubuntu hardy with 2.22.3.1. Our current location has very poor wifi and she gets emails with lots of pictures, etc. She is used to Outlook Express where she would just click on the Minimize [-] button in the upper right hand corner to move the Send/Receive window off the email window into the bottom tray. She then continues to read/compose messages while uploading/downloading new emails. Anyway, she complains to me about it. So, I pass the info along to you. I do not know what all is involved in adding a minimize button [-] to Send/Receive Mail window. It would make her much happier. It does not bother me much as my emails are small and I can do other web activity while they are up/downloading. Thanks for your attention.
The Send & Receive Mail window is meant to be transient. In other words, it should not show up in the window list on the panel. That it does currently is a bug that's hard to fix at the moment. But once fixed, a minimize button would not make sense because there would be no way to retrieve the window. A "Hide" button next to "Cancel All" might make more sense.

can be marked dupe of bug 592187 ?
Works for me in 3.6.x. Actually, as Matthew mentioned above, the window is not supposed to be minimized, user can safely close it, and the operations running behind will still work.
