GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 551066
"Pages per side" and "Only print" options don't integrate well
Last modified: 2008-09-07 17:05:33 UTC
I desired to print a PDF with 4-sides up, on two sides of each sheet of paper (application here is evince). I assumed I could do this by using the Page Setup tab. I set "Pages per side" to be 4 and "Only print" to be "Odd sheets". I was working under the assumption that this would print the first 4 pages onto the first sheet, skip the next 4 pages, print pages 8-11 on the second sheet, and so on. Had this worked, I could have taken the printed sheets out of the hopper, turned it over and reinserted it into the printer and printed 4 up, printing only the even sheets. This appears to be the more obvious way these two options should combine, since one option talks about "Pages per side", the next option is "Two-sided" (so the user is now thinking in terms of printed sides, not pages in the original document), then "Only print" talks about sheets. If "Only print" is meant to deal with document pages, it should have options of "All pages", "Odd pages", and "Even pages". What's more, it should probably be _above_ the "Pages per side" option, since the flow suggests that the first option would takes precedence. Other information: I am using evince 2.22.2 as packaged in Ubuntu 8.04LTS. Thank you!
BTW, what I would desire would be for the "Pages per side" to take precendence over "Only print". The options in "Only print" should probably read "All sides", "Even sides", and "Odd sides" since the terminology of "side" has already been implicitly defined.
Yes, that would be better.
