Description Nullack 2008-08-16 07:45:34 UTC
Please describe the problem:
File roller is trashing Ubuntu Intrepid installs by unwelcome changes to file permission by setting the permissions to 700 which wrecks the install. A full discussion of the bug is found on the Ubuntu bug tracker:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file-roller/+bug/250021

Steps to reproduce:
1. in /home/username/subdir using nautilus invoked by gksudo nautilus open a tar.bz2 and extract it .
2. close the root nautilus, close the terminal from which it was invoked .
3. open a user nautilus .
4. watch while system fails .
note ! see attached JPG taken of completely unresponsive desktop , I couldn't do a normal screenshot because at this point only a hard reset or sysreq rseiub is possible .

Actual results:

Expected results:
File roller should never modify permissions of other files.

Does this happen every time?
