Description Stephane Raimbault 2008-08-11 10:42:31 UTC
Please describe the problem:
The french translators have some difficulties to translate the following sentence:
  Cannot set a random seed

I don't speak English but I propose something like that:
Unable to initialize the random number generator

Corresponding French translation:
Impossible d'initialiser le générateur de nombres aléatoires

Steps to reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Actual results:

Expected results:

Does this happen every time?

This is an error message for the PKCS#11 error code: CKR_RANDOM_SEED_NOT_SUPPORTED

Most of these messages are things that a user should almost never see. They're marked translatable for completeness, in case a PKCS#11 module returns them as an error at some point.

Stef: well, if the error can appear in the UI, it makes sense to make it understandable; I think "Cannot initialize the random number generator" is fine in this case -- or is there a reason that we need more technical details there?.

Else, well, it just doesn't make sense to mark it for translation.
Comment 3 Stef Walter 2008-08-31 18:18:04 UTC
I'm not sure if it makes sense to mark for translation or not.

As with many poorly designed APIs and standards there's not a clear separation between user visible messages and programatically handled errors. This is the case in the PKCS#11 standard, as you can see from looking at the file in question:

gp11/gp11-misc.c

But I can change it to the string suggested.

Thanks, but you've forgotten to announce the change to i18n and doc lists so I made the announcement.

Odd, I was sure I sent one:

Really sorry, I don't see your mail (certainly deleted by mistake).
