GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 544069
NetworkManager doesn't remember changes to a wired connection
Last modified: 2008-08-17 22:59:24 UTC
Please describe the problem: I have a laptop, which i use to connect to several different places where I go to work. At each of this places, I have configured a connection with the company name and its fixed IP settings (IP address, netmask, default gateway, DNSs).Today, I got new settings from the network administrator of one of these companies. He changed me the IP address and the default gateway. I went to NetworkManager, and changed the parameters accordingly. I clicked on OK, then on close. I then chose the connection again from the NetworkManager menu to reconnect. Oh surprise! it didn't change the settings. I went again to NetworkManager and the settings were still the old ones, it didn't change anything. I changed them again, and again and again. It never remembered the changes. I had to delete the connection, and create it again. Kind of a PITA. BTW: I'm using Fedora 9 x86. Steps to reproduce: 1. Create a connection with fixed IP settings 2. connect using this settings 3. change the settings in the connection 4. reconnect to this connection to reflect the new changes. It will not take them Actual results: The Ip settings in the PC remain the same, with no change at all. Expected results: The PC takes the new settings (IP Address, netmask, gateway, DNS). Does this happen every time? Almost. Other information:
I can confirm this bug is occuring in Ubuntu Intrepid which currently appears to use NM 0.7.0 SVN 20070721. As a workaround I have set my router to use mac based DNS reservation to get the IPs I want but I appreciate this workaround wont be applicable to everyone. NM appears to also ignore entries, as discussed in this bug on the Ubuntu launchpad: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/256054
