Description Vincent D. 2008-06-17 10:22:38 UTC
When you right click on trash, you can choose to empty the folder. There is no such option for spam folder. There is not even an option to select all messages in this spam folder. You have to do Ctrl+A to be able to select all messages, and then you can delete them and clean the folder.

My request is to have an option to empty spam folder, or at least a general menu shortcut to be able to select all messages of the current folder.

Note that the clean option has not the same meaning that an empty option, and not the same effect.

This would require a complete rewrite of lots of stuff.

Really ?
Even for adding a new menu entry which have the same effect as Ctrl+A ?

With my experience in programming GUI (students projects) it does not seem so hard to do. Maybe I should watch the code of Evolution's gui one day...

But the fact is that the current behavior is really disturbing, and basic users (as my parents are) clean the folder by hand ! They spend so much time to empty the folder, one message by one, I'm sad to see that waste ;)

I'm having a hard time understanding what the issue is.

Folder -> Select All Messages (Ctrl+A) works as expected in the Junk folder, so you already have your "general menu shortcut to be able to select all messages of the current folder".

I'm not so sure adding a "Delete All" item to the Junk folder's context menu is a good idea because it may make it a little too easy to blow away valid messages. Junk filters are imperfect, and it's unwise to just blindly delete everything marked as "probable junk". I would think you'd want to at least scan the summaries looking for false positives; after which a quick Ctrl+A, Delete does the job.

I think I'm misunderstanding something here.

Sorry you have passed a hard time.

Ok, I hadn't seen the Folder -> Select All Messages, I was searching into Edit menu, like other applications do (such as kmail, or nautilus, or...).
So there is such a shortcut in menu, cool. But it's the only way. It should be great to have this item also when right clicking on a folder.

And in fact, it should be better to have an option to delete all items of a folder, with a confirmation dialog, in my opinion. But your argument is convincing.

Thank you for having paid attention.
